House-Listing Phase: What Happens During Enumerator Visits?

From **August 16 to September 14, 2026**, trained census enumerators will visit every household across the state. The Purpose of the House-Listing Visit
The house-listing phase is the physical audit of structures. The enumerator's task is to ensure that every building is mapped and categorized (as residential, commercial, or public). This ensures that no household is missed during the subsequent population count.
If You Completed Self-Enumeration Online
If you registered on the portal before August 15 and have your 11-digit Self-Enumeration ID (SE ID), the visit is simple:
- The enumerator will ask if you have completed the self-enumeration.
- Provide them with your 11-digit SE ID.
- The enumerator will enter this ID into their mobile tablet. Your pre-filled answers will populate.
- They will verify that the number of family members in the home matches the records and confirm your address. The visit will take less than 2 minutes.
If You Did Not Complete Self-Enumeration Online
If you did not use the portal, the enumerator will conduct a short interview. They will ask questions about your house construction materials, access to drinking water, electricity, toilet facilities, and household assets. They will fill out these details on their digital device. This interview takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
Verifying the Enumerator's Identity
To ensure security, always verify the identity of the person visiting your home. Official census enumerators will wear a government-issued photo ID card showing the Census logo and the signature of the local municipal commissioner or district magistrate. They will never ask for your banking details, Aadhaar OTPs, or ask you to pay any money. Census participation is completely free.
